Weekly Schedule

  • You are invited to join the Heartland Community of Mindful Living for evenings of mindfulness every Monday at Unity Temple on the Plaza, 707 W 47th Street, Kansas City, MO. Our gatherings are open to the public. Newcomers welcome!

    Silent Meditation - every Monday, 7 p.m. - 7:45 p.m. in Classroom C. Please enter quietly if you arrive during the meditation period.

    Weekly Gatherings - every Monday, 7:45 p.m. - 8:50 p.m. in Classroom C. Our schedule rotates as follows:

    • First Monday - The Five Mindfulness Trainings Recitation Ceremony followed by a dharma discussion. All are welcome to enjoy this ritual affirming our practice of mindfulness.

    • Second Monday - Thây on Tape: a video or audio presentation by Zen Master Thích Nhât Hanh followed by dharma discussion.

    • Third Monday - An evening of sitting, walking and guided meditation.

    • Fourth Monday - A reading from one of Zen Master Thích Nhât Hanh's many publications followed by dharma discussion.

    • Fifth Monday - Flower watering and hugging meditation.

    Recitation of the 14 Mindfulness Trainings with the Order of Interbeing Sangha - Every other week on Sunday morning. Contact us for details.

    We do not meet on New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr.'s Birthday, Independence, Memorial or Labor Day, or Christmas.

Sangha Invited to Vietnamese Temple

Kwan_yin We are pleased to announce that Sr. Thich Hoa Dao, via our friend Duc Doan, has invited our Sangha to their temple opening ceremony this Saturday, January 12, 2008 at 10:00 am. The temple, Chua Pho Hien, is located at 1614 White Ave, Kansas City, MO 64124. Lunch will be served after the ceremony.

This invitation resulted after we sought Duc Doan’s assistance in learning more about traditional Vietnamese Buddhist holidays and practices. Sr. Thich Hoa Dao speaks English well and has attended several retreats with Thich Nhat Hanh, according to Duc Doan. Duc Doan has attended several retreats with our Sangha, including the most recent one at the Marillac Center. Duc Doan hopes we can connect with the younger English speaking Vietnamese.
