Joyful Steps Walking Meditation Group
Second Saturday of each month, 9-11 AM
We spend time walking from one place to another, too often lost in the past or the future. When we learn to be fully present with each step, the wonders of the present moment unfold before us. Each step can become a moment of peace and joy. This class will explore walking meditation in its many forms. The "homework" will be to incorporate walking meditation into each day. There will be also be "field trips" along the way!
Dharma Rain Sutra Study Group
Second Wednesday of each month, 7-9 PM
The Lotus Sutra is one of the most revered sutras of Mahayana Buddhism. It conveys important teachings of Shakyamuni Buddha and can profoundly affect our daily lives and practice through its teachings on skillful means. However, understanding of the sutra can be obscured by its fantastic visions of "buddhas as numerous as the dust particles of thousands of universes," and trees, flowers, and entire landscapes made of jewels and gold.
This study group will not be an academic analysis, focused on our intellectual understanding. Instead, our focus will be allowing the sutra settle into our being, like Dharma rain, hopefully allowing our hearts to better know how this sutra points our way in each moment.
Material used for this exploration are translations of the Lotus Sutra by Burton Watson and others, Thich Nhat Hanh's book Opening the Heart of the Cosmos: Insights on the Lotus Sutra and Dharma talks from Thich Nhat Hanh's retreat on the Lotus Sutra.
