5th Monday's are very special for the Heartland Community of Mindful Living. We offer three wonderful practices that most everyone delights in.
The first is deep relaxation, a laying down meditation to help you relax totally. This type of meditation is helpful when you are very tired or stressed. Sleeping is encouraged! Please bring a pad or blanket to lay on and another to cover yourself.
The second is flower-watering. This is a way to express your gratitude to the community or individuals of the community. We call it flower watering, because we share something about the community or person that nourishes us and everyone blossoms!
The last is hugging meditation. Thich Nhat Hanh developed this practice after he came to the west. Hugging is not a common practice in Vietnam. Thay says his first hug was rather stiff. However he saw the benefits of conscious hugging and created hugging meditation. We always ask first, then bow. As we hug we breathe three times in and out together. Here is the gatha for hugging meditation:
Breathing in, I am so happy to hug you.
Breathing out, I know you are real and alive in my arms.
We look forward to seeing you Monday, March 29th at 7:00 pm at Unity Temple on the Plaza, Classroom C.
